The "quality and value" philosophy of The

Founded in 1944 by Rodney M. Lockwood, Sr., an acknowledged "pioneer of the
modern housing industry," Lockwood Construction Company has since built over
$1.2 billion of housing in the state of Michigan. Rodney M. Lockwood, Sr.
brought many innovations to the housing industry, including the furnished model
home, which are still in widespread use today.
In the 1940's and 1950's Mr. Lockwood, Sr. was called
upon by Presidents Truman and Eisenhower to serve on government task forces
trying to solve the nation's housing needs. He authored the "Lockwood
Report," which did much to alleviate housing material shortages by serving as a
blueprint for transforming the war-time economy to domestic production.
Mr. Lockwood, Sr. also led the National Association of Home Builders' move to
found FNMA. He was elected President of the National Association of Home
Builders in 1949 and later served as a Director of the prestigious Urban Land
Institute. In recognition of his vision and influence on the
post-war housing industry, Mr. Lockwood, Sr. was one of the original inductees
into the National Housing Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C.
In 1986, Rodney M. Lockwood, Jr. succeeded his father
as President of Lockwood Construction and refocused its direction as an new era
of multi-family housing was beginning. Both The
Lockwood Development and the
Lockwood Construction companies are strongly committed to preserving the
traditions and values of Rodney M. Lockwood, Sr., which have proven successful
for more than 50 years.
